Report: Diamond Stone declares for 2016 NBA Draft
It looks as though Diamond Stone's college experience will be a short one, as the freshman standout will enter the 2016 NBA Draft, sources told Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com.
Stone will not yet hire an agent, leaving the door open for a return to Maryland for his sophomore season, but with the 19-year-old widely projected to be a first-round pick, it's unlikely he would return to school.
The Washington Post reports that Stone has not yet made a decision, quoting his father, Bob Stone, as saying they are still discussing whether or not to return to school.
"We haven't made any decision yet. I don't know where that (report) came from, but we haven't made any decisions yet," Bob said. "It's a lie. That's the best I can tell you."
His father continued: "I have no idea where it came from. I don't know anybody in Cleveland. I don't know anybody I would be talking to in Cleveland."
Diamond, though, seems more sure of his plans than his father, having retweeted reports of his decision to enter the draft as well as tweets from fans wishing him well in the NBA.
In his only season with the Terrapins, the 6-foot-11 forward averaged 12.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game.
Draft Express currently has Stone ranked as the 24th overall prospect for the 2016 NBA Draft.
