Creighton head coach Greg McDermott is retiring at the end of the 2025-26 season, the school announced Monday.

"It has been an incredible honor to lead the Creighton men's basketball program for the past 16 years," McDermott said in a statement. "I'm very proud of the young men that have proudly worn the Bluejay uniform and represented our program in a first-class manner. Witnessing their growth and development on and off the playing floor was especially gratifying."

The job will be passed on to coach-in-waiting Alan Huss, who stepped down as head coach of High Point in April 2025 after an NCAA Tournament appearance and returned to the Bluejays' staff.

Creighton won 365 games during McDermott's tenure. The 61-year-old assembled a 514-319 head coaching record over 25 Division I seasons spanning stints with Northern Iowa, Iowa State, and Creighton.

McDermott oversaw the Bluejays' move from the Missouri Valley Conference to the Big East following the 2012-13 season. He led Creighton to a .500 record or better in 11 of 13 seasons in the Big East.

The Bluejays' streak of 10 consecutive 20-win seasons ended this year, as they finished with a 15-17 mark.

McDermott will step down after coaching Creighton in the College Basketball Crown, a college basketball postseason event that takes place April 1-5 in Las Vegas.
