Houston star Jamal Shead exited in the first half of Friday's Sweet 16 loss against Duke with a right ankle injury.

Shead hurt himself on a drive to the basket and remained on the floor for several moments before being assisted to the locker room.

The school later ruled him as questionable to return after X-rays on Shead were negative, per Joseph Duarte of The Houston Chronicle. He came back to the bench in the second half but did not see any action.

Shead has played a key role for the top-seeded Cougars, averaging 13.2 points, 6.4 assists, 3.8 boards, and 2.2 steals over 36 appearances.

The senior guard collected numerous individual honors this season, including Big 12 Player of the Year, Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, and first-team All-American honors.

He's one of four finalists for the Naismith Player of the Year award.
