The Final Four is the last destination of the college basketball season. It's where every school strives to be.

Players' jerseys have special patches to commemorate the occasion while the fan atmosphere is almost second to none under the roof of sold-out football stadiums.

With this year's Final Four canceled, let's relive some of its most memorable matchups:

Guy rescues Virginia from jaws of defeat, 2019

Before Virginia completed its Hollywood script in the national championship game, the Cavaliers escaped their semifinals matchup against Auburn by the skin of their teeth. The Tigers were 17 seconds away from playing for their first Division I crown after scoring 14 unanswered points to go up 61-57.

But in another sudden turn of events, All-American guard Kyle Guy outscored Auburn 6-1 the rest of the way to rescue Virginia from the jaws of defeat. Guy's game-winning free throws resulted from a controversial foul called with less than a second remaining. Officials reviewed the play and deemed Tigers junior Samir Doughty didn't give Guy enough space to land after his 3-point attempt.

If that wasn't cruel enough, referees also appeared to miss a double-dribble violation on Cavaliers star Ty Jerome mere moments before.

Wisconsin ends Kentucky's perfect season, 2015

A year after Kentucky dealt Wisconsin a devastating last-second Final Four loss, the Badgers had the ultimate redemption. Wisconsin overcame a six-minute scoring drought in the second half to end the Wildcats' perfect season, leaving them two wins short of becoming the first undefeated college basketball team since Indiana in 1975-76.

Badgers star Frank Kaminsky celebrated his 22nd birthday with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks while teammate Sam Dekker stepped up in the clutch, drilling a step-back triple to put Wisconsin up for good and then drawing a charge on the following possession.

Kentucky's squad featured nine future NBAers - including All-Stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Devin Booker - but were outdone by a much more experienced Wisconsin team and its methodical execution on both ends. The Wildcats averaged just under 75 points during the regular season, yet only mustered 28 second-half points - and 64 total - as the Badgers advanced to their first national championship game in 74 years.

Okafor makes amends to rally UConn past Duke, 2004

Fresh off a record-tying sixth Big East Tournament title, UConn marched through the Phoenix region, winning its first four NCAA Tournament games by an average of 17.5 points. With Emeka Okafor and Ben Gordon in the fold, the Huskies had one of the deadliest inside-out tandems.

UConn appeared to be on its way toward another easy win, jumping out to a 15-4 lead in its Final Four showdown against Duke. But soon, the Huskies found themselves in a battle without Okafor, who picked up two fouls within the game's first four minutes. The UConn star remained glued to the bench for the duration of the first half as the Blue Devils built a seven-point lead.

However, Okafor made amends in the second half, recording 18 points and six boards. Duke simply had no answer for the 6-foot-10 center, as Okafor fouled out three of his opposing defenders. Okafor's teammates fed off his relentless motor and the Blue Devils stopped attacking the rim while faced with one of the nation's top shot blockers.

Okafor was especially exceptional in crunch time, scoring five of the Huskies' 12 unanswered points - including the go-ahead basket - as UConn erased a 75-67 deficit in the final 3:28 to win 79-78.

Duke hands UNLV 1st loss, denies back-to-back bid, 1991

The parallels between UNLV and Kentucky's 2014 squad are quite eerie. The undefeated Runnin' Rebels entered the NCAA Tournament as defending national champs. The school also had its share of future NBA talent in All-Americans Stacey Augmon and Larry Johnson, as well as Greg Anthony.

Both teams were heavily under the microscope throughout their respective campaigns. UNLV became one of the most culturally influential teams off of the court.

The Runnin' Rebels entered their Final Four matchup against Duke on a 45-game win streak and returned the same core that thrashed the Blue Devils by 30 points in the 1990 national final. Duke was an eight-point underdog, a far cry from the powerhouse it would eventually become.

Like the Wildcats, UNLV's high-octane offense ran out of gas while an opposing big man imposed his will. A year before "The Shot," Christian Laettner's 28-point, 7-rebound performance lifted the Blue Devils to a 79-77 upset win. Duke went on to defeat Kansas to give head coach Mike Krzyzewski his first of five national championships.

NC State ends UCLA's 7-year reign, 1974

NC State's 80-77 double-overtime victory over UCLA remains one of the greatest NCAA Tournament games 46 years later. The national semifinal clash pitted the country's top-ranked teams against one another and featured a plethora of stars, including the NBA's next two No. 1 overall picks - Bill Walton and David Thompson.

Under the guidance of legendary head coach John Wooden, the Bruins won a record seven straight Division I men's basketball championships. The Wolfpack were also a legitimate force, boasting a 26-game win streak and a 28-1 record. However, NC State's lone defeat was an 18-point loss to UCLA.

The matchup lived up to its heavyweight billing. The teams were tied 35-35 at halftime and at 65 after regulation. The first overtime period didn't solve anything either, as NC State and UCLA only managed two points each.

The Bruins pulled ahead by seven early in the second overtime and looked to have the game in the bag. But behind the raucous North Carolina crowd, the Wolfpack responded with a 13-3 scoring run to end UCLA's reign. Most impressively, NC State's rally occurred before the shot clock and 3-point line were introduced to college basketball.
