Canadian 5-star recruit Primo commits to Alabama

Canadian five-star recruit Josh Primo has committed to Alabama, he announced Friday on social media.

Primo will suit up for the Crimson Tide in 2020-21 after reclassifying. He should immediately step into Alabama's starting lineup and help offset the potential losses of guard Kira Lewis and John Petty.

Creighton was also in the running for the 6-foot-5 guard.

Primo is the 27th-ranked prospect in the class of 2020, according to 247Sports' high school recruit rankings. He can play either guard position and boasts a 6-foot-9 wingspan.

"I can see my game fitting in really well," Primo told 247Sports' Evan Daniels. "Coach (Nate Oats) likes to play fast, he likes to play with a lot of guards who can pass, dribble, and shoot, and I think that's exactly what I can do.

"I can make plays and coach Nate likes guys who can be creative and he allows guys to do that. I've seen that throughout the year with Alabama this year and I think that it will be really good for me to get into that system."

Primo had a standout performance in front of NBA scouts at the league's Basketball Without Borders Global Camp during All-Star Weekend in February. He'll be draft-eligible next year and is currently projected to be selected near the middle of the first round in the 2021 NBA Draft, according to ESPN's Jonathan Givony.

The 17-year-old joins fellow Canadian recruit Keon Ambrose in Alabama's 2020 class. Both players represented their nation at last summer's FIBA U19 World Cup.
