Brakefield becomes Duke's 4th 5-star commit for 2020
After rival North Carolina began the week by landing its third five-star recruit for 2020, Duke ended the week by adding its fourth.
Jaemyn Brakefield announced his commitment to the Blue Devils on Friday, just one day after Duke offered him a scholarship.
The 6-foot-8 forward is the 23rd-ranked player on the ESPN 100 for 2020 and will join fellow five-star prospects Jalen Johnson, Jeremy Roach, and D.J. Steward on the Blue Devils' roster next season.
"I'm headed to Duke University," Brakefield told 247Sports' Evan Daniels. "I'm excited about going there. It's a dream school of mine and a place I've dreamed of playing at in my career."
"The reason I picked Duke is I just think it's an unbelievable opportunity to maximize my potential at the fullest. I think it's the best fit for me as a person and a basketball player. It's something I always loved."
Brakefield averaged 15.9 points, 6.1 boards, and 2.8 assists per contest on the Nike EYBL circuit with Phenom University, where he played with Johnson.
Auburn and Louisville were also in the mix for the versatile forward.
Duke's class still lacks a true center but the school remains in the running for four-star big men Mark Williams and Hunter Dickinson.
