Iowa State transfer Bolton ruled eligible for 2019-20 season
The NCAA granted a waiver to Iowa State guard Rasir Bolton that makes him immediately eligible to play this upcoming season, the school announced Tuesday.
Bolton transferred from Penn State following his freshman season, during which he averaged 11.6 points per game and shot 36.1% from distance.
"We are excited that Rasir will be allowed to compete for us this season," Iowa State head coach Steve Prohm said in a statement. "We certainly appreciate Penn State for their assistance during the process and are grateful that the NCAA considered all the facts in coming to this decision."
The 6-foot-2 combo guard has three years of eligibility remaining and could slot into the Cyclones' starting lineup.
Iowa State lost its top three scorers from last year to the NBA, and Bolton's addition will help replace some of that production.
"I'm so happy that I will be able to play for Iowa State this season," Bolton said in a statement. "It has been a long process and I can't thank everyone enough for their support. The care and thoroughness by the compliance staff here at Iowa State in helping me get this opportunity is really appreciated. I can't wait to play at Hilton Coliseum in front of our amazing fans."
Iowa State finished fifth in the Big 12 regular-season standings with a 23-12 overall record. The Cyclones went on to win the Big 12 Tournament but were eliminated in the first round of the NCAA tourney.
