Trae Young attributes struggles to being guarded 'like nobody else'

Oklahoma guard Trae Young is in the midst of an astounding freshman season, but in recent weeks, cracks have begun to show.

After starting the season 16-5 and ranking as high as fourth in the nation, the Sooners have lost five consecutive games. In those games, the NCAA's leading scorer has shot just 35 percent from the field and 19.6 percent from 3-point range, while turning the ball over 5.2 times per contest.

After Oklahoma's most recent loss, a 77-66 defeat at the hands of Texas on Saturday, Young chalked up his struggles to the variety of different defensive looks he's seeing each night.

"I'm getting guarded like nobody else in the country is being guarded, scouted on like no one else in the country is," Young told reporters, according to ESPN's Jake Trotter. "It's a mystery coming out each and every game to try and figure out how a team is going to guard me and how I'm going to dictate how my team wins."

With just five games left in the regular season, all within the school's own conference, Oklahoma needs Young to figure that out sooner (heh) than later.
