Report: Auburn lands commitment from VCU transfer Samir Doughty

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl was able to add some quality depth to his backcourt Sunday, even though it won't take effect until 2018-19.

The Tigers were able to pluck from the transfer market by securing a commitment from former VCU guard Samir Doughty, according to Jon Rothstein of FanRag Sports, citing a source.

Last season, in his first year of college basketball, Doughty was a respectable contributor on a team that compiled a 26-9 record and finished 2nd in the Atlantic 10 regular season standings. Doughty averaged nine points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 41 percent over 23.1 minutes.

As per NCAA transfer regulations, Doughty will be required to sit out next season before suiting up for the Tigers.
