4-star Syracuse signee Matthew Moyer suffers foot injury

The beginning of Matthew Moyer's career at Syracuse has not gotten off to the best of starts, as the four-star recruit suffered a foot injury during a workout Friday.

Head coach Jim Boeheim, currently in Rio de Janeiro with the men's Olympic basketball team, confirmed Monday that the injury took place during a workout, but remains unsure of how much time Moyer will miss, according to Mike Walters of Syracuse.com.

"Medically, I'm not sure what's wrong," Boeheim said. "We'll have to figure out what it is. They're looking at it right now. As for the severity of it, we won't know for sure, probably, until the end of the month."

Moyer, a 6-foot-8 forward out of South Kent Prep (Conn.), was shown in a walking boot and crutches in a picture posted to Twitter, so regardless of the long-term severity of the injury, the incoming freshman will be on the shelf for at least the time being.

Moyer had received many other offers during his recruiting process from schools such as Butler, Florida, Tennessee, USC, Wisconsin, and Xavier among others. He is ranked 74th on the ESPN 100 for the 2016 class.
