Dwayne Morgan elects against transfer, will stay with UNLV
Marvin Menzies has only been coach of UNLV for a few days, but has already registered his first win, as Dwayne Morgan will stay with the program instead of transferring.
The sophomore forward asked for his release with an intent to transfer closer to his hometown of Baltimore on March 23, but has since had a change of heart.
"After consulting with my mom, close family and friends, as well as the new head coach Marvin Menzies himself, I have decided to continue my education and athletics career as a Runnin' Rebel," Morgan said in a Twitter post. "The coach really seems enthused about the program, the Runnin' Rebel community, and making me better as a person and player."
Morgan averaged 5.5 points for UNLV in his second collegiate season, starting 22 games before being shut down for the season with a shoulder injury.
It's a rare piece of good news on the player front for the Runnin' Rebels program this offseason. Patrick McCaw, Stephen Zimmerman, Goodluck Okonoboh, Derrick Jones Jr, Chris Obekpa, and Jordan Cornish have all left the team to either transfer or to enter the NBA draft.
