Grizzlies' Gasol undergoes season-ending foot surgery

Memphis Grizzlies franchise center Marc Gasol underwent surgery on his fractured right foot Saturday, the club announced Tuesday.
He will miss the remainder of the season.
Gasol suffered a non-displaced Type II fracture of the navicular bone in his right foot Feb. 8 in a contest against the Portland Trail Blazers. He was initially listed as questionable with foot soreness, and was already battling various nagging injuries, but took the court anyway.
The 31-year-old Spaniard re-signed with the Grizzlies on a five-year maximum contract last summer, and was named to the All-NBA first team last season. Gasol is the Grizzlies' cornerstone, and one of the best two-way centers in the league.
In the wake of Gasol's injuries, Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger has opted to play Zach Randolph at center while Brandan Wright (fresh off a knee injury) serves as backup.
The Grizzlies have managed a 2-1 record without Gasol in the three games they've played since he went down.
Through 52 games, Gasol put up averages of 16.6 points, seven rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.3 blocks in 34.4 minutes per contest.
Memphis ranks fifth in the West with a record of 32-23.
