Report: Wizards to sign D-Leaguer Jarell Eddie, waive Ryan Hollins
The Washington Wizards are reportedly getting the ball rolling on transaction season with the smallest of nudges.
The Wizards plan to sign 3-point specialist Jarell Eddie from the D-League's Austin Spurs, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.
To clear a roster spot, they'll waive seldom-used center Ryan Hollins, who's played just five games and 48 total minutes this season. His contract would've become guaranteed for the rest of the season on Dec. 27. Charania reports that Washington may re-sign Hollins later in the season.
In Eddie, the Wizards will get a shooting boost to help fill the Bradley Beal void. Beal is dealing with a leg injury and is expected to be out until the new year, while offseason signee and potential fill-in Alan Anderson remains out following ankle surgery.
Eddie, who went undrafted out of Virginia Tech in 2014, has yet to appear in an NBA game. He signed a 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks last season, but never got on the floor, and was cut in October after signing a camp deal with the Golden State Warriors.
The 24-year-old swingman is averaging 14.1 points and knocking down an incredible 52.5 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc for Austin. He won the D-League's 3-point contest at All-Star Weekend last season.
As Yahoo Sports' Bobby Marks notes, the league's non-guaranteed cut date is Jan. 8, which gives the Wizards 18 days to decide whether they want to keep Eddie on for the remainder of the year.
