Grizzlies' Gasol to play through foot, ankle sprains

It's been a sluggish start to the season for the Memphis Grizzlies, who, despite sitting sixth in the Western Conference at 12-10, have the NBA's seventh-worst point differential and have lost seven games by at least 15 points. (That includes 37- and 51-point drubbings, which stand as the worst home loss and worst loss, period, in franchise history.)

Things don't look to be getting any rosier, as All-Star center Marc Gasol suffered a sprained ankle and foot during Tuesday's blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger said Gasol will try to gut through the injury and play "as much as he can" Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons, though banging with Andre Drummond in the post seems unlikely to cure what ails him.

Gasol, the league's Defensive Player of the Year in 2012-13, was named to the All-NBA first team last season for the first time. Through 22 games, he's averaging a team-high 16.1 points, along with 7.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.2 blocks.
