Report: Celtics' Smart may be out longer than 2 weeks due to leg injury
Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens is not a doctor, nor does he play one on television.
And so, when the Beantown bench boss stated on Sunday that Marcus Smart would be out for roughly two weeks due to a leg injury, Stevens' prognosis was a tad unrealistic.
Expectations that Smart would be fit for game action within Stevens' two-week time frame were "very optimistic," Comcast SportsNet's A. Sherrod Blakely indicated Wednesday, as the second-year guard has been using crutches while wearing a leg brace since being diagnosed with a subluxation of the proximal tibfib joint during Friday's game against the Brooklyn Nets.
Blakely adds that there is no definitive timetable for the 21-year-old's return.
While word of Smart's potentially longer-than-expected absence is certainly not music to the ears of Celtics faithful, the good news is that his injury does not require surgery.
Boston sorely missed Smart's 9.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.8 steals, and gritty playing style as they dropped both games the Oklahoma State alumnus sat out.
Sporting a 7-7 record, the Celts look to rise above .500 as they face the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night.
