World Peace to raffle NBA Defensive Player of the Year trophy for charity

Metta World Peace's 2004 NBA Defensive Player of the Year award is the only piece of individual hardware he's earned in the NBA for his on-court performance. Eleven years later, the 35-year-old Los Angeles Lakers forward is willing to raffle it off for a noble cause.

Following Sunday's practice, World Peace revealed he's looking to raise at least $2 million to "help young men become better partners and fathers," according to ESPN's Baxter Holmes.

"A lot of kids learn ... how to calls girls 'b's' and 'h's,'" World Peace said. "What about learning how to be a good father and be a good partner?"

This isn't the first time World Peace has raffled off a prized possession, as the two-time All-Defensive First Team member raised $671,000 from his 2010 championship ring for mental health charities.

"I think teaching the importance of being a good family man and being a good partner, I think that will help a lot of issues with mental health because most of that is born from the family household," World Peace added.

His future with the Lakers will be determined Monday when head coach Byron Scott picks between him and Jabari Brown for the 15th and final roster spot. The team signed World Peace to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal on Sept. 24.
