Indiana Pacers All-Star forward Paul George has been excused from his USA Basketball duties, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.
After attending Team USA's Monday meeting, George had a one-on-one sit-down with head coach Mike Krzyzewski, where it was determined he would opt-out of the team's remaining events this week.
The USAB minicamp - running from Aug. 11-13 - features light, non-contact drills on its first two days, with an exhibition game on the final day.
Stein indicates that it was always expected for George to sit out the aforementioned on-court activities, as the 25-year-old winger is coming off a 2014-15 campaign in which he played only six games before being shut down for the remainder of the regular season with a calf injury.
This week's minicamp is being held approximately one year after George suffered a gruesome leg injury in an intrasquad scrimmage during last summer's Team USA session prior to the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
USAB director Jerry Colangelo stated that the non-contact nature of the camp's schedule "really isn't any byproduct at all" of what happened to George last August.
Absent from the camp thus far: LeBron James and Chandler Parsons. James has some "major commitments in Cleveland" to tend to, but will join the team later this week, as will Parsons, who is nursing his surgically repaired knee.
Despite Andre Iguodala's absence Tuesday, his status with the national team was clarified by Krzyzewski.
Iguodala, who recently got married, was permitted to put off his patriotic duties in favor of his honeymoon. Although Iggy was willing to postpone the trip with his new bride, Coack K insisted he stick to his commitment to his wife.
"He's been a prince for us," Krzyzewski said of the 2015 NBA Finals MVP.
Iguodala, who won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2012 Olympics in London, remains a legitimate candidate for the 2016 roster which will compete in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
