Robert Horry says LeBron James carrying 'cast of nobodies'

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

LeBron James is playing with a bunch of nobodies in the NBA Finals. At least that's what seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry believes.

During an appearance on WFAN's "Boomer & Carton" radio show Monday morning, Horry drew comparisons between the 2015 Cleveland Cavaliers, the 2007 Cavaliers squad James took to the NBA Finals, and the 2001 Philadelphia 76ers, led by former NBA Most Valuable Player Allen Iverson:

The run that LeBron is doing is impressive. It reminds me of two different guys: LeBron back in 2007 when he took that team to the Finals - the first Cavs team - and then what Allen Iverson did when he took his Sixers to the Finals. When you got a cast of nobodies, a cast of people you can't even call on - other than Dikembe Mutombo for the Sixers - to take them to the Finals, put them on your back and do everything offensively and defensively to get them there, it's special.

Injuries to both Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, who recently underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured left knee cap, have forced James to handle more responsibility as the Cavaliers look to win their first NBA championship in franchise history. His usage percentage of 37.2 is tops in the playoffs.

"The King" is averaging 29.3 points, 10.6 rebounds and 8.3 assists during Cleveland's postseason run, including an absurd 41.5 points, 12 rebounds and 8.5 assists in the first two games of the Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

James' remaining teammates may not have the star power of a former Rookie of the Year like Irving, but they certainly deserve more credit for how they're performing in the playoffs than Horry is willing to give them.

Matthew Dellavedova played stifling defense on Steph Curry in Game 2, forcing the Most Valuable Player to shoot 0-for-8 and turn the ball over four times when being covered by the Cavs guard.

Tristan Thompson has been a beast on the glass, averaging 10.4 boards a night, while Timofey Mozgov and J.R. Smith have both stepped up admirably to take some of the pressure off James.

Hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy would silence Horry's harsh assessment, as both the 2007 Cavaliers and 2001 Sixers failed to win a championship.
