Nelson was paired with Dallas' first-unit Saturday at the team's open scrimmage, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Analysis:

Nelson has quietly emerged as the favorite to begin the season as Dallas' starting point guard. He has been paired with the first team through a majority of camp and his inclusion on the White team is another indicator that he has established himself as the front-runner. Coach Rick Carlisle also raved about Devin Harris but did indicate he likes Harris' energy off the bench. Nelson's other competition comes in the form of Raymond Felton, who will miss the first four games due to suspension.
