Brandon Jennings says he's gained weight, is ready for Pistons season

NBA off-seasons are rife with players proclaiming they're in better shape, healthier and ready to work harder than they ever have before, and this off-season has been no different.

Enter Brandon Jennings - who is coming off a disappointing season that saw him shoot 37 percent and pout his way through a 53-loss season in Detroit - who checked off all possible off-season cliches in a recent interview.

Better shape? The slender, 6-foot-1 guard, who's listed at 169 pounds, says he's now "about 185, 190 [pounds] on my good days,” according to The Detroit News.

Healthier and entering camp with a better attitude? Well after saying last season was his worst year, as he had to deal with the after effects of a broken jaw and ex-coach Mo Cheeks being fired, Jennings had this to say to The Detroit News:

"This year will definitely be different. But I feel like as players, I’ll be the first one to say, ‘I (bleeped) up. I missed up,’” Jennings said. “If you can hold yourself accountable and always stop pointing the finger at other people, then everything is good because everybody respects everybody in the locker room. You have to be able to talk.

“I always believed that. Always. But you have to be genuine about that. You can’t just be like 'my bad'. Naw, you gotta explain it. I should’ve gotten there, I should’ve helped. I mean, we’re adults now (laughs). We gotta start acting like it.”

Finally, when asked whether competition at the point (from Will Bynum and D.J. Augustin) bothers him, Jennings responded: “Not at all, I’m ready," he told the paper, before talking about getting the Pistons back over the playoff hump.

As with any player, talk of an improved body and improved attitude is all well and good, but whether you can prove it on the court is what others will be paying attention to.
