Voter admits he selected Durant as Most Improved by accident

There were a lot of candidates that one could make a good case for as the NBA's Most Improved Player this year, and it would have been hard to quibble with any number of winners.

Goran Dragic of the Phoenix Suns was one such candidate, and he took home the award on Wednesday, securing 65 of 126 first place votes.

One player who received one of those votes raised some eyebrows, however. Kevin Durant definitely got better in 2013-14, pushing LeBron James for the title of league's best player and making significant strides on the defensive end, in particular. But he was already a superstar, so seeing him get a vote was unusual.

And it was a mistake.

Los Angeles Clippers color commentator Michael Smith admitted on Wednesday that he made a mistake on his ballot, ranking the Most Improved candidates Durant-James-Blake Griffin, the rankings that should have been his MVP ballot.

Smith indicated that he would have voted for Anthony Davis, who placed third in the voting, to win the award, a vote that would have pushed him into second place over Lance Stephenson.

Really, though, there's no harm done here. Honest mistake, and it didn't change the outcome of the award.
