Tim Duncan posts oldest 20-20 in league history, 15 years after first 20-20
Not only did Tim Duncan hit the game-winner on Monday night, he also became the oldest player in NBA history to post a game with 20 points and 20 rebounds, doing so at 37 years and 221 days old.
Robert Parish had previously held the distinction at 37 years and 173 days. Duncan also owns the third oldest mark from a Dec. 12 game last season. While it's unofficial, the assumption that Duncan has the longest time between his first 20-20 performance and his last - 15 years, eight months and 11 days - is probably a safe one.
It also marked the 22nd 20-20 game of Duncan's career, the seventh most since 1985-86 (when Basketball Reference's Play Index begins). Charles Barkley and Dwight Howard are tied for the most with 42 apiece.
Duncan's ability to dominate at age 37 is a testament to his talent and conditioning, and as the totals continue to rise he looks more and more like a lock for the 'best power forward ever' title. Averaging career-lows of 13.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 27.9 minutes, Duncan has pushed his career totals to the following levels:
Statistic | Amount | All-Time Rank |
---|---|---|
Games | 1196 | 32 |
Minutes | 41893 | 20 |
Points | 23994 | 21 |
Rebounds | 13348 | 13 |
Assists | 3658 | 123 |
Blocks | 2682 | 8 |
Steals | 878 | 200 |
FG% | 50.6 | 93 |
Win Shares | 185.5 | 8 |
He is also one of just seven players to reach 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 2,000 blocks in a career and is one of just four to reach the somewhat more arbitrary 23,000-13,000-2,500 markers.
In short, he's the best, and it's greatly appreciated that we'll still (probably) get another season of watching him do his thing.
