Bulls cut Ivey following anti-LGBTQ+ comments

The Chicago Bulls waived Jaden Ivey due to "conduct detrimental to the team," the franchise announced Monday.

Ivey's dismissal comes hours after he made anti-LGBQT+ comments during a live Instagram stream earlier Monday, which was then posted to his account as a near 43-minute video.

While discussing religion and other subjects at length, the fourth-year guard denounced the LGBTQ+ community and criticized the NBA for celebrating Pride Month, which he called a promotion of "unrighteousness."

The Detroit Pistons drafted Ivey fifth overall in 2022, and Chicago acquired him in a three-team deal involving the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb. 3. The 24-year-old played in four games after arriving in Chicago but had been held out of the team's 19 games since. In 37 combined appearances for the Pistons and Bulls this season, he averaged 8.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.

Ivey would have become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
