Several Los Angeles Clippers players were caught off guard by Monday night's news that James Harden was reportedly working with the team on a potential move before Thursday's NBA trade deadline.

"It's a surprise. ... Respect his decision or whoever's decision it is. And that's it. That's still gonna be my boy. Trust the front office," star Kawhi Leonard told reporters, including Clippers beat writer Joey Linn, after a 128-113 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Harden's trade discussions were reported during Monday's contest. He wasn't with the team for personal reasons and also sat out Sunday's game.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are apparently among the teams in talks with the Clippers and are willing to part with two-time All-Star guard Darius Garland.

Los Angeles forward John Collins expressed disappointment about possibly losing Harden, especially with the club's recent hot stretch after a 6-21 start.

"It would definitely be a shock for me and for the team and what we've been able to do," Collins said. "Our season turned around. So definitely just something different. Out of left field. But we'll continue to handle it as it unfolds."

Head coach Tyronn Lue didn't comment on the rumors but did acknowledge the former MVP's importance to the team. The Clippers are 117-78 with Harden in the lineup since acquiring him from the 76ers in November 2023.

"He means a lot. He means a lot to our team. You've seen it the last three years," Lue said.

Harden is averaging 25.4 points, 8.1 assists, 4.8 boards, and 1.3 steals across 44 appearances this season. He set a Clippers single-game scoring record last November with 55 points against the Charlotte Hornets.

Harden has veto power over any potential trade. The 11-time All-Star holds a $42.3-million player option for 2026-27.
