Edwards: Wish I could've gone 1-on-1 with Wemby during electric 4th Q

Anthony Edwards' season-high 55 points weren't enough to help the Minnesota Timberwolves topple the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

But the high-flying T-Wolves star relished a thrilling back-and-forth duel with Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama in the final frame.

"I loved it. I wish we could've just moved everybody out the way and just checked up and - me vs. him," Edwards told ClutchPoints' Hector Ledesma.

On who would win the one-on-one if it happened, Edwards simply replied: "Me."

Edwards scored 26 of his 55 points in the fourth quarter, including a fading, pull-up jumper from the top of the key that put the Timberwolves up 110-108. On the very next possession, Wembanyama responded with his own midrange jumper to again even the score. Edwards came back down the floor and hit an unassisted three, only for Wembanyama to immediately answer with his own long ball.

San Antonio eventually hung on to win 126-123 at home, with Wembanyama recording his own impressive stat line of 39 points on 12-of-23 shooting (4-of-9 from deep), nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in 31 minutes.

"It's an honor, and it's the best thing to have the best players go as hard as they can because it makes us better, it makes me better," the Spurs star said postgame. "It's a show of respect and also of progress, stepping up."

The Spurs improved to 29-13 with the win, keeping pace with the Denver Nuggets for second in the Western Conference. Both the Spurs and Nuggets also narrowed the distance to the first-place Oklahoma City Thunder, who suffered just their eighth loss of the season Saturday against the Miami Heat.
