Report: Porter exercising $6.3M player option for 2023-24 season
Toronto Raptors forward Otto Porter Jr. is exercising his $6.3-million player option for the 2023-24 campaign, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Porter made two starts and played in just eight games for Toronto this past season after signing a two-year, $12.3-million deal as a free agent last summer. The 29-year-old sustained a dislocated toe in November that necessitated season-ending foot surgery in January.
Porter's reported move could create trade flexibility for the Raptors by allowing them to send his $6.3-million salary to another team. Toronto could be one of the NBA's busiest teams this summer as it reassesses its roster and searches for a new head coach after firing 2019 title-winner Nick Nurse last week.
Porter averaged 5.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals while playing 18.3 minutes per game in his limited availability for Toronto. He started 15 of 63 appearances last season as a member of the championship-winning Golden State Warriors, registering 8.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 37% from deep.
He was a key bench component for Steve Kerr's squad in the postseason, stepping in for center Kevon Looney in Games 4-6 of the Finals to help the Warriors defeat the Boston Celtics.
