Report: Spurs' Primo waived after allegedly exposing himself to women
The San Antonio Spurs' decision to waive second-year wing Joshua Primo stemmed from multiple alleged instances of him exposing himself to women, sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski.
A former Spurs employee was among the women Primo exposed himself to, The Athletic's Shams Charania reports. She hired the same attorney who represented the women in the sexual misconduct lawsuits against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, adds Charania.
San Antonio selected Primo with the 12th overall pick just a year ago.
"It is our hope that, in the long run, this decision will serve the best interest of both the organization and Joshua," said Spurs Sports and Entertainment CEO RC Buford in a statement.
The organization had no additional comments on Primo's release.
The Canadian addressed his unexpected cut from the Spurs' roster later Friday.
"I know that you all are surprised by today's announcement," Primo said in a statement to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. "I've been seeking help to deal with previous trauma I suffered and will now take this time to focus on my mental health treatment more fully.
"I hope to be able to discuss these issues in the future so I can help others who have suffered in a similar way. I appreciate privacy at this time."
Primo averaged 5.8 points and started 16 games during his rookie campaign. He played over 23 minutes per contest through four games this season.
San Antonio exercised Primo's third-year team option Oct. 10. He's eligible to be claimed off waivers, but a team must have at least $4.1 million in cap space or a large enough trade exception to accommodate his 2022-23 salary, according to Spotrac's Keith Smith.
The Alabama product was listed out for Friday's contest against the Chicago Bulls due to left glute soreness.
Primo was an SEC All-Freshman team selection during his lone collegiate campaign. He posted 8.1 points per contest and shot 38.1% from deep over 30 appearances in 2020-21 with the Crimson Tide.
