Report: Lakers eyeing Hornets' Rozier, Spurs' Richardson in trade talks
The Los Angeles Lakers are considering some serious changes to their roster amid an 0-3 start to the season.
Los Angeles is eyeing potential trade targets including Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier and San Antonio Spurs wing Josh Richardson, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Rozier, 28, reportedly emerged as a trade candidate in the offseason, with L.A. and Charlotte discussing a potential three- or four-team deal. But a move for the 28-year-old scoring guard reportedly depends on whether the Hornets are in the playoff race, Charania adds.
The Lakers' interest in the 29-year-old Richardson has reportedly formed in recent weeks, with the Spurs looking poised to become sellers as the season progresses.
Los Angeles also reportedly continues to monitor the Indiana Pacers' situation following offseason trade discussions. Reports indicated the Pacers wanted the Lakers' only two tradable first-round picks - in 2027 and 2029 - to take on Russell Westbrook's contract while shipping off valuable veterans in Buddy Hield and Myles Turner.
It's unclear whether Westbrook would be involved in a potential trade with the Hornets or Spurs.
Westbrook's second season with Los Angeles is off to an even rockier start than his first; the 33-year-old former MVP is shooting just 29% from the field and 8% from beyond the arc.
Lakers head coach Darvin Ham benched Westbrook in the final moments of Sunday's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Asked postgame if he had concerns about Westbrook's potential response to the move, Ham told reporters that "we don't have time for people to be in their feelings," according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
