The Los Angeles Lakers and vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka agreed to terms on a contract extension that runs through the 2025-26 season, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Pelinka's deal is now structured to expire at the same time as that of new head coach Darvin Ham, who signed a four-year contract this offseason. Lakers owner Jeanie Buss wanted alignment between management and the coach, Haynes adds.

The Lakers hired Pelinka as general manager in 2017, operating under then-executive vice president of basketball operations Magic Johnson. The former NBA power agent took over Magic's role in January 2020 while also maintaining the GM position.

Los Angeles has made the playoffs twice in five full seasons since hiring Pelinka, including the team's championship run in 2020. During Pelinka's tenure, the Lakers signed LeBron James as a free agent in 2018 and acquired Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019.
