Mike D'Antoni is set to meet with Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan later this week to discuss the team's vacant head coaching position, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

D'Antoni has already met with management twice about the role, as has current Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, who is scheduled to chat with Jordan on Tuesday. Last week, it was reported that Atkinson was the front-runner to land the job. Both D'Antoni and Atkinson are considered finalists for the position.

The Hornets are expected to make an offer to either D'Antoni or Atkinson after meetings with Jordan conclude this week, Wojnarowski notes.

D'Antoni, a two-time Coach of the Year winner, has coached 1,199 career games spanning 16 seasons split between the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Houston Rockets. He also served as Philadelphia 76ers associate head coach during the 2015-16 campaign and most recently was an assistant on Steve Nash's coaching staff with the Brooklyn Nets in 2020-21.

The 71-year-old enjoyed the bulk of his success in Phoenix and Houston where he reached a combined three conference finals while winning 50 or more regular-season games in seven of those nine seasons. He's been lauded as an offensive mastermind throughout his career and would be tasked with building a system around dynamic young talent LaMelo Ball if he's ultimately hired.

D'Antoni owns a career head coaching record of 672-527 (.560 winning percentage). His 672 career wins rank 21st all time.

Charlotte is coming off a 43-39 season in which the team qualified for the Eastern Conference play-in tournament. The team parted ways with former head coach James Borrego in April.
