The NBA suspended LeBron James for one game and Isaiah Stewart for two contests following their altercation during Sunday's matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Detroit Pistons, president of league operations Byron Spruell announced Monday.

The league disciplined James for "recklessly hitting" Stewart in the face, while it ruled that the Pistons center escalated the incident by "repeatedly and aggressively pursuing" the Lakers superstar.

James will miss Tuesday's contest against the New York Knicks. The Pistons won't have Stewart in the lineup for their matchups versus the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks.

It's the first suspension of James' 19-year career. He'll forfeit $284,004 in salary, while Stewart loses just over $45,000, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Both James and Stewart were ejected from Sunday's game in the third quarter. James received a flagrant-2 foul, and officials gave Stewart a pair of technical fouls.
