Pacers assistant Bayno steps down due to health, personal issues
Longtime NBA assistant coach Bill Bayno has resigned from the Indiana Pacers, citing health and personal issues, the team announced.
The 58-year-old joined the Pacers' coaching staff in 2016 following stints with the Toronto Raptors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Portland Trail Blazers. He stayed with Indiana after the team switched head coaches and replaced Nate McMillan with Nate Bjorkgren during the offseason.
"I appreciate the impact coach Bayno has had on our players and the Pacers organization over the last five years," Bjorkgren said in a team statement. "All of us at the Pacers wish him the very best as he transitions to his next chapter."
Bayno also previously served as the head coach at UNLV from 1995-2000, leading the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances before a recruiting scandal centered around Lamar Odom led to his dismissal. The NCAA later cleared him of any wrongdoing.
He also coached Loyola Marymount for three games in 2008-09 before resigning due to anxiety issues. Bayno's symptoms included an inability to eat or sleep for days, according to the Times Herald-Record's Justin Rodriguez.
