Raptors' Lowry fractures thumb, Ibaka suffers severe ankle sprain vs. Pels

Toronto Raptors veterans Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka suffered significant injuries in the first half of Friday's 122-104 road win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Raptors head coach Nick Nurse disclosed postgame that Lowry sustained a small fracture in his left thumb and Ibaka suffered a severely sprained right ankle, according to The Athletic's Eric Koreen.

Lowry's latest ailment is unrelated to the thumb injury that prevented him from suiting up for Team USA at the FIBA World Cup this summer.

Team staff initially believed Lowry's injury was simply an issue with his thumbnail, Koreen adds. The five-time All-Star will undergo further testing Saturday and has no timetable for a return.

Entering Friday, Lowry had averaged a career-best 24 points while playing a league-high 39 minutes per game. Ibaka had averaged 14.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in 24.4 minutes per contest off the reigning NBA champions' bench.
