Report: Kings, Hield agree to 4-year, $86M extension

Buddy Hield got his deal.

The Sacramento Kings reportedly agreed to a four-year contract extension with Hield that will pay the guard $86 million in guaranteed salary, with another $20 million in possible incentives, a source told The Athletic's Sam Amick.

Nearly half of the $20 million in incentives are considered within reach for Hield, such as 3-point shooting marks that he's hit before and a playoff berth, according to Amick.

His base salary will decline 8% every year of the extension and will take up only 13.5% of Sacramento's cap room in the fourth season, Amick adds.

The 26-year-old Hield had grown increasingly vocal about the distance between the team and himself in negotiations. On Thursday, he warned the Kings that if they couldn't meet his contractual demands he'd begin searching for "another home." The former sixth overall pick was seeking an extension worth close to $110 million, while the Kings had only offered $90 million, as reported by Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.

Hield was on course to become a restricted free agent next summer.

The Bahamian blossomed into Sacramento's leading scorer in 2018-19, his second full season with the team. Hield averaged 20.7 points, shot 42.7% from three, and added five rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as the Kings finished 39-43, good for ninth in the Western Conference.

Teams have until 6 p.m. ET on Monday to sign players entering the final season of their rookie deals to extensions. The Toronto Raptors wrapped up their own similar bit of business with reigning Most Improved Player Pascal Siakam, signing the forward to a reported four-year, $130-million maximum extension.
