Report: Mavs, Powell to agree on 3-year, $33M extension
The Dallas Mavericks will offer Dwight Powell a three-year, $33-million extension when free agency begins Sunday and both sides are expected to quickly agree on the terms, sources told The New York Times' Marc Stein.
The extension would not kick in until the 2020-21 season, leaving Dallas' cap flexibility this summer intact, notes ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
Powell, 27, has steadily improved in each of his five NBA seasons and is coming off a 2018-19 campaign in which he averaged 10.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in 21.6 minutes per contest.
The Canadian big man reportedly exercised his $10.2-million player option for next season earlier this month after it was believed he would opt out.
Dallas is also expected to secure the long-term services of fellow forward Kristaps Porzingis on Sunday. The 23-year-old hasn't played for the team since being acquired in a trade with the New York Knicks in January, but the Mavericks will reportedly sign him to a five-year, $158-million deal when the free-agent market opens.
