Report: Wizards have no imminent plans to speak with Ujiri

Moments after the Toronto Raptors captured their first-ever NBA championship, news circulated that the Washington Wizards were reportedly preparing a lucrative offer for Masai Ujiri.

However, a person close to the Wizards told The Washington Post's Candace Buckner that the club has no imminent plans to request permission to speak with the Raptors president of basketball operations nor has an offer been arranged for Ujiri.

The 48-year-old began his career as a scout before assuming his front-office role. As general manager of the Denver Nuggets, Ujiri notably engineered Carmelo Anthony's blockbuster deal with the New York Knicks and was named NBA Executive of the Year in 2013. He returned to Toronto that same year and turned the team into a perennial playoff contender.

The Wizards fired longtime executive Ernie Grunfeld after missing the postseason for the seventh time over the last 11 seasons and continue their search for his successor. Washington has already been unsuccessful in luring Tim Connelly away from the Nuggets.
