Kerr: Warriors' effort 'embarrassing' in blowout loss to Celtics

The Golden State Warriors' effort during Tuesday's blowout loss at home to the Boston Celtics was far from what head coach Steve Kerr expects from the two-time defending champions.

"Right from the beginning, just the level of competition wasn't where it needed to be," Kerr said after the loss, according to ESPN's Nick Friedell. "It was 11-to-nothing in about three minutes, four minutes.

"And it looked to me like we were jogging up the floor. You can't play basketball jogging. You got to sprint. Your cuts have to be hard. You got to be going all out. And we did not go all out. And it was embarrassing."

The 53-year-old specifically cited a lack of "anger" as a reason for the humbling defeat. Superstar forward Kevin Durant disagreed.

"I thought we moved off of joy," he said postgame, according to The Athletic's Anthony Slater. "Now anger? I disagree with that one. I think all-around, top to bottom, coaches, players, we just got to be better."

The 33-point loss was the Warriors' worst at home with Steve Kerr as head coach. Boston outperformed Golden State in nearly every statistical category, including assists (38-26), rebounds (46-45), steals (12-5), and turnovers (11-22).

Following a five-game winning streak in mid-February, Golden State has now won just three of its last eight.

The Warriors' hold on the top spot in the Western Conference is also hanging precariously, aided only by the second-place Denver Nuggets losing three straight. Those two teams square off Friday at Oracle Arena.
