The Detroit Pistons have reached an agreement with shooting guard Wayne Ellington, the team announced on Saturday.

Ellington was sent from the Miami Heat to the Phoenix Suns earlier this week in a trade that included Heat guard Tyler Johnson and Suns forward Ryan Anderson. After the rebuilding Suns waived him, the 31-year-old reportedly cleared waivers on Saturday, according to Wojnarowski.

A career 38-percent 3-point shooter, Ellington played a supporting role on the Heat over the past two-and-a-half seasons. In 164 regular-season appearances with Miami, he averaged 10.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in just under 25 minutes per game.

Aside from a pair of late-January starts, however, the veteran two guard has been relegated to a deep bench role since early December. He couldn't find playing time in a Heat backcourt that also boasts Dwyane Wade, Josh Richardson, Dion Waiters, and Rodney McGruder.

The Pistons needed wing depth after trading Reggie Bullock and Stanley Johnson in separate deals ahead of Thursday's trade deadline. Detroit occupies the ninth seed in the East, half a game behind the Heat for the conference's final playoff slot.
