LeBron didn't give 'much thought' to 'dear friend' Kroenke's Nuggets pitch
Last summer, it was reported the Denver Nuggets were aggressively pursuing a free agent meeting with LeBron James. It never happened, despite LeBron's friendship with Nuggets president Josh Kroenke.
"(He) is a very dear friend of mine," the superstar told ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "He discussed it a couple times to me."
Kroenke's pitch, according to McMenamin, included a mockup of Denver's throwback skyline rainbow uniform complete with James' name and number.
"(He) said you'd look good in one of these," James said. "We have a great friendship. But I didn't give it much thought."
The Nuggets would have been an extreme wild card to land James, who announced he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers on July 1, the first day of free agency.
Still, James is apparently very close with Kroenke, whose father Stan owns the Nuggets, the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, and the NFL's Los Angeles Rams. McMenamin reports James vacationed on Stan Kroenke's yacht off the coast of Italy in the summer of 2016, shortly after leading the Cavs to the NBA title.
