Michael Beasley's mother loses battle with cancer
Michael Beasley's mother, Fatima Smith, died on Sunday after losing her battle with cancer.
The Los Angeles Lakers forward posted a photo of his mother on Instagram, captioned with an angel emoji.
Lakers head coach Luke Walton expressed his condolences to Beasley's family prior to Sunday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
"I just wanted to send our love, our thoughts, and our prayers to Michael Beasley and his family," Walton said, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "They're going through a tough time. But we're thinking of you, we miss you, and we love you."
Beasley has missed a large chunk of the season while tending to his family.
The 29-year-old attended last week's game against the Washington Wizards at his mother's request, according to a Lakers spokeswoman. Beasley is from nearby Prince George's County, Maryland and his mother wanted to see the Lakers play in person.
