Markelle Fultz's mother, Ebony, has reportedly gone to great lengths to protect her son since he entered the Association.

After Fultz was selected first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2017, Ebony had surveillance cameras installed in his New Jersey home, sources told the Washington Post's Candace Buckner. Those with knowledge of the cameras - which have since been removed - described the setup as "unusual."

"There's definitely crazy [expletive] going on with the mom and how involved she is and how overprotective she is," said an unnamed person closely connected to Fultz. "The best possible situation is if the mom just backs off for a period of time and gives him a chance to breathe."

Multiple sources told Buckner that Ebony had also asked some people who dealt with Markelle to sign non-disclosure agreements, although the reason is unknown.

Ebony declined to comment on the allegations.

"I'm not concerned about what other people are saying. I'm concerned about my son's health right now. That's my No. 1 priority," she said. "At this time, I don't have a comment. We just found out what's going on with my son, and I want to put all of my energy on him and what he needs, the support he needs right now to get healthy."

Markelle is out indefinitely after being diagnosed with neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome, which affects nerves between the neck and shoulder. He's been away from the 76ers since Nov. 20 seeking aid from specialists.

The 20-year-old has averaged 8.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while shooting 41.9 percent from the field through 19 appearances in his sophomore year.
