George reveals he's playing through 'dead foot' nerve palsy
Oklahoma City Thunder forward Paul George revealed Thursday night that he has been playing through what he termed a "dead foot" issue.
"A lot of people don't know I'm playing through a bad - not a bad, but I got a palsy, a peroneal nerve palsy," George said after Thursday night's 111-107 win over the Charlotte Hornets, according to The Oklahoman's Erik Horne. "If Y'all don't know what that is, it's a dead foot term. So I'm just trying to play through that.
"It's nothing that's major, it's nothing that's going to hurting me. It's just something that's going to come back when it feels right I guess. But it's just playing through that. It's just fun to be out there. I've had one of the worst injuries possible, so nothing else is going to sideline me."
Despite his team eking out the win, George had his weakest offensive performance of the season. The 28-year-old finished with fewer than 20 points for the first time this year, scoring 11 on 4-of-20 shooting from the field, including a disastrous 0-of-10 mark from 3-point range.
Coming into the game, George had been enjoying prolific production. But although the five-time All-Star had been scoring 25.5 points, that high total came by virtue of a career-high 20.5 shots per game - of which he had connected on a career-low field-goal percentage of 41.5.
Still, an uneven start aside, George knows better than most that things could always be worse. Back in 2014, he suffered a gruesome compound fracture of the tibia and fibula after colliding with a basketball stanchion during a USA Basketball scrimmage, ultimately missing all but six games of the 2014-15 season.
