Doncic thinks it would be a mistake for teams to pass on him in the draft

As long as Slovenian teenager Luka Doncic is drafted close to the top of Thursday's draft, he'll be content - though he will use those teams that pass on him as fuel in his bid for NBA domination.

"Pick one to five, it will be amazing to be selected there, especially for a European guy," Doncic told Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania. "I need to show it on the court, because I need to prove it. I can see who made a mistake not drafting me. After my rookie season, I will see who made a mistake. I'm motivated to enter the draft. I'm excited to play in the NBA and play against these stars. It will be the biggest challenge for me, staying there a long time."

For much of the past draft cycle, Doncic - currently starring for Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid - has been projected as a potential NBA star in the making, someone worthy of a team's No. 1 pick in the 2018 draft.

In order, the top five picks belong to the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, and the Dallas Mavericks. Now that the order of selection has been determined, however, Doncic's stock appears to be waning ever so slightly, as stateside prospects like Arizona's DeAndre Ayton, Duke's Marvin Bagley III, and Michigan State's Jaren Jackson Jr. have gained steam.

Each of the teams atop the 2018 draft will have to consider the consequences of not heeding Doncic's warnings, with the 19-year-old determined to make everyone regret their decision to pass on him.
