Chris Paul had more than the Western Conference finals on his mind Friday after learning of a mass shooting at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas - less than an hour's drive from where he and his Houston Rockets teammates were practicing - in which at least 10 people were killed.

"First and foremost, aside from the playoffs going on, which is minor compared to what is taking place down in Santa Fe, our prayers (go) out to the victims and the families having to deal with that situation," Paul told reporters, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. "We have a lot of fan support there. Those people come out and support us night in, night out. This is minor compared to what those people are dealing with."

The shooting at Sante Fe High School was the 22nd school shooting in the U.S. in 2018, an average of more than one per week. Paul, who has two kids aged 5 and 8, said he can't help but worry about their future safety.

"It's tough, man," Paul said. "It's scary that's becoming a norm here. We got to do something about it. Yeah, I can't imagine something like that taking place with my kids."
