Prosecutors recommend felony charges for Schroder

The DeKalb County, Ga., district attorney's office has recommended that misdemeanor battery charges against Hawks point guard Dennis Schroder be upgraded to felony aggravated battery, according to court records cited by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Michael Cunningham.

Schroder was arrested along with three other men outside a suburban Atlanta hookah bar on Sept. 29. Police said a video recording showed him "initiate contact" with another man. That victim suffered a torn meniscus and a torn ACL as a result of an assault, according to prosecutors. According to Georgia law, someone convicted of aggravated battery faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.

The Hawks said in October that they would wait for the legal process to play out before deciding on any punishment.

"I think we are all human beings," Schroder said at the time. "Everybody makes mistakes."
