LeBron: Billboards are flattering, 'but I know what's important'

If you were thinking of becoming the latest person to pay for a billboard in hopes of convincing LeBron James to join your favorite team, save your money.

Another sign has popped up to influence the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar's upcoming free-agent decision - this time in James' hometown of Akron, Ohio, reminding him there's no place like home.

"It's very flattering. Very humbling. I know my hometown, so I already know there's no place like Akron," James said Friday with a smile. "That's for sure."

That said, the four-time MVP made it clear these signs, while nice, are merely distractions that will have no bearing on his decision.

"I see and I hear pretty much everything, but I know what's important," he said. "I know what keeps me focused. I know what the job is at hand. That's just how I've always been."

A signage war broke out last month when a Pennsylvania company paid to erect three billboards in Cleveland asking James to "Complete The Process." A Lakers super fan responded with two in Los Angeles trying to sell the 33-year-old on winning banners. A Toronto Raptors fan made a digital version, while Trail Blazers supporters raised money to put one up in Portland.

James is averaging 27.4 points, 9.1 assists, 8.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and a block per game while leading the NBA in minutes (37.2) for the second year in a row. He has a $35.6-million player option for next season that he's expected to decline, and will either re-sign with the third-place Cavs or take his talents elsewhere.
