Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson is expected to miss multiple games after a medical evaluation Sunday diagnosed the 26-year-old with a right ankle sprain, the team announced.

Thompson first injured his ankle in Saturday's loss to the Denver Nuggets, though he finished the contest with 12 points and seven rebounds in 28 minutes. Overnight, however, he experienced "significant swelling", necessitating treatment and a rehabilitation period for the ailment.

It's unknown exactly how much time Thompson is expected to miss, though the Cavaliers say his return date will be determined "in relation to his continued evaluation and recovery progress."

Thompson is averaging 6.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season.
