Report: Gordon, Oladipo expected to headline Slam Dunk contest
It sounds like the field for the 2018 Slam Dunk contest is all but set, with two veterans of the competition and two newcomers.
Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon, Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo, and Dallas Mavericks guard Dennis Smith Jr. are reportedly set to compete on All-Star Saturday, according to Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.
Charania also reports Los Angeles Lakers forward Larry Nance Jr. is a "strong candidate" to be the final participant, but he hasn't made a decision.
Gordon competed in the contest the past two seasons, finishing second to then-Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine in 2016, in one of the best dunk contests in league history. He was eliminated in the first round last year, struggling to match the electricity of the prior year due to a foot injury.
Oladipo, similar to Gordon, finished second to LaVine when he participated in 2015. Oladipo is in the midst of a career year with the Pacers, averaging 24.2 points and 5.2 rebounds.
Smith is in his rookie season, and has been one of the league's most exciting dunkers. He's averaging 14.8 points and 4.6 assists for the Mavericks.
If Nance decides to join, he'll be following in his father's footsteps. Larry Nance Sr. won the first ever NBA Slam Dunk contest in 1984.
