After taking time away from the Cleveland Cavaliers to contemplate his future, point guard Derrick Rose appears to have come to a decision.

The former MVP has been in contact with Cavaliers general manager Koby Atlman and has expressed a desire to return to the team, according to The Athletic's Jason Lloyd.

Cleveland is expected to make a formal announcement concerning Rose's status Sunday.

With his recovery from a nagging ankle injury taking longer than anticipated, Rose elected to take a leave of absence to figure out whether he wanted to continue playing basketball, having dealt with a litany of serious injuries since 2011.

It was believed internally that Rose could possibly retire, but that no longer appears to be the case.

The 29-year-old has made seven starts this season, averaging 14.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists on 47 percent shooting.

With Isiaah Thomas' return just around the corner, and veteran Dwyane Wade running the offense for the second unit, it begs the question of what kind of role Rose would even have if he returns.
