The Detroit Pistons and team owner Tom Gores released a joint statement Monday in support of players' "right to raise awareness (of equality and diversity) in a manner they believe is both thoughtful and impactful."

With an avalanche of protests and demonstrations by athletes Sunday at nearly every NFL game, Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, and even an international tennis match, it's a smart bet that NBA teams and players, most of which are holding their media days Monday, will continue contributing to the civic discourse on racial inequality in America.
